Toronto Harbour and Island Dinner Cruise on the Stella Borealis

Come and join fellow meeting participants in a dinner cruise on Sunday, 24th May.
Boarding will start at 7 p.m. for departure at 7:30 and return at 11:30 p.m.
Besides the superb views of the Toronto skyline and of its islands, you will enjoy the First Mate’s BBQ, an awesome salad, meat and dessert meal, and a disc jockey will entertain you for the evening. Register early as attendance is limited at 284 guests. Cost: $65 (CAN)

Toronto and surrounding areas also provide visitors with a great

Toronto Symphony Orchestra: Close to the Conference Centre, come and hear Beethoven’s World on Saturday 23rd May at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, 24th May, at 3 p.m. Or, if you stick around after the conference, hear Mahler Symphony no. 6 on Thursday 28th May at 8 p.m.

  • Canadian Opera Company: La Bohème , finishing on Sunday 24th May. (Puccini’s glorious music sets the stage for this heartfelt tale of young love and tragic loss. Impoverished life in the Latin Quarter of Paris is no deterrent for Puccini’s young lovers, who embrace life with all their hearts and, in the process, capture ours. Performance time is approximately 2 hours, 30 minutes with two intermissions. Sung in Italian with English surtitles.)


  • National Ballet: Giselle Starting on Wed 27th May till Sun 31 May. (The tragic story of an innocent girl who is deceived by a man who is pledged to another, it emphasizes themes of madness, betrayal, the supernatural and forgiveness. Giselle is based on the book by Vernoy de Saint-Georges with music by Adolphe Adam. Since its premiere with the company in the 1950s, Giselle has been a mainstay of the National Ballet's classical repertoire. Successive generations of female principals have risen to the enormous and complex emotional and technical challenges the title role poses, locating in its rich dramatic subtext a splendid array of interpretative possibilities. At the same time, successive generations of audiences have responded to the work's haunting and evocative story, its ethereal ballet blanc effects and its sheer unfettered emotionalism.)

Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre

189 Yonge St (N of Queen St, opposite Eaton Centre, this now rare ‘double-decker theatre’ can be toured for its own historical and architectural interest.You can also attend ‘ Tuesdays with Morrie ’ performed in the Winter Garden Theatre (24th at 2 p.m., 26th at 8 p.m., 27th at 2 and 8 p.m.) by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson. 125 Bathurst St: finishing on Sun 24 May: Fear of flight (14 nervous passengers on a bumpy transcontinental flight deal with their immortality, baggage, and meeting Jesus' brother Victor in Vancouver. This thrilling, touching and hilarious music and movement spectacle features a wild ensemble of singing travelers. Contributions from some of Canada's most laudable playwrights including Daniel MacIvor, Judith Thompson, Denise Clarke, Marie Clements, David Yee, Bryden MacDonald, Guillermo Verdecchia and Berni Stapleton.)

  • House of Many Tongues (Israeli general Shimon has lived in his home in Jerusalem for forty years. When a Palestinian writer shows up and lays claim to the house he left decades ago, we realize somehow their two families are going to have to live together — if they don’t kill each other first. Magic realism triumphs over political reality in this witty and exciting new play, developed while Jonathan was a member of the 2006 Playwrights Unit.)

  • Doubt, a parable (Heralded as the most powerful theatrical event of the decade, Doubt, a Parable is the recipient of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony, Drama Desk, New York Drama Critics' Circle, Outer Critics Circle and Obie Awards. Created by American playwright John Patrick Shanley, the Academy Award-winning author of Moonstruck and Joe and the Volcano, Doubt, a Parable is the Broadway and West End sensation that took New York critics by storm. It was voted best new play of the year by the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine. Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, the production is a gripping, suspense-filled tug-of-war between a popular priest and a strong-minded nun who suspects her colleague of improper conduct with a student. The controversial play dramatizes issues ripped from today's headlines and tackles themes of religion, morality and authority.)
